The Dante Alighieri Youth Group of Tokyo

The Tokyo Committee of Società Dante Alighieri, through GGDA (Gruppo Giovanile Dante Alighieri), has long supported members of the Italian community in the Tokyo metropolitan area and nearby prefectures in the complex process of raising their children, whether fully Italian or Italian-Japanese. This has been and continues to be done with the aim of fostering respect and love for the Italian language and culture.

Società Dante Alighieri also supports monolingual Japanese families who, due to work commitments, have educated their children in Italy and wish to continue this education upon returning to Japan. Additionally, the organization assists Japanese families preparing to move to Italy, helping them introduce their children to the language and culture of Italy.

To foster and nurture young people’s interest in our culture, the decision has been made to expand and strengthen after-school programs in the Italian language. These programs combine language and cultural learning with supplementary activities like arts, sports, and recreational options for children and teenagers.

Italian Language Education Project for Children

The Tokyo committee of Società Dante Alighieri has long contributed to the Italian community in Japan through GGDA (Gruppo Giovani Dante Alighieri). This initiative supports Italian children, children born to Italian and Japanese parents, and those with experience living in Italy, in Tokyo, and surrounding areas (such as Yokohama, Kawasaki, Chiba, Saitama, and Tokorozawa). Our mission is to introduce these children to the Italian culture and language, fostering their knowledge and interest.

In addition to supporting Italian families in Japan, we also assist Japanese families whose children have lived in Italy or are planning to move there.

Specifically, the “Chicchi” class for children aged 3 to 5 offers a program that encourages an interest in Italian language and culture through activities like physical education, arts and crafts, and recreational games—all conducted in Italian. This approach creates a fun and natural environment for children to learn the language and deepen their cultural ties.

Through these efforts, Società Dante Alighieri continues to serve as a bridge between Italy and Japan, supporting the multicultural development of children who will shape the future.
