Seminar Overview

Among the three parts of Dante’s Divine Comedy, the Inferno is especially captivating to readers.
Filled with eerie and ominous landscapes, echoing screams, sinners, demons, and mythical monsters, it unfolds like a horror movie.
At the entrance to Hell, these famous words are inscribed:
“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”
Dante hesitates before this inscription but is encouraged by his guide, the poet Virgil, to step into Hell. In this seminar, we will follow Dante on his journey through the Inferno.

Topics include:

How was Hell created?
What is the structure of Hell’s circles according to the type and severity of sins?
Why have so many artists and writers been captivated by Dante’s vision of Hell?
Who is Lucifer, who appears at the end of the Inferno?

Learn about the world of Dante’s “Inferno,” which exceeds his imagination, from the very beginning!

The seminar will be conducted with simultaneous interpretation in Italian and Japanese.

It is ideal for beginners interested in Dante or Italian literature.
